Matia's Story
www.matiaellis.com
My name is Matia and I am 11 years old. I was diagnosed with Type I (juvenile diabetes) when I was 6.
I don't like having diabetes, nobody does. I have to check my blood sugar 10 times a day, every day.
I have an insulin pump to help with my diabetes management so I don't have to take shots but I have to change the sight on my belly, bottom or arm where the insulin goes into me, every 2-3 days.
I just got a puppy to train as a service dog! Kristin Tarnowski is helping me train my service dog. It is so cool how they can work! He will be trained to alert to my low blood and high blood sugars. If my blood sugar goes really low, I can have a seizure or die. Any blood sugar lower than 80 is low. A regular person is around 100. My lowest was 33. My dog will be able to smell my blood sugar dropping and alert me before it gets that low. Even while I sleep! That would let my mom and dad rest easier too.
The training for my dog costs quite a bit. We pay for boarding him with the trainer and for training so he will alert to my blood sugars and so he will be able to go everywhere with me!
My dog's name... Mylow Spelled like My low blood sugar. Thought of it myself.
Can you help me? Please make a donation.
Sincerely, Matia
